To investigate and effectively manage ALL EH&S non-conformities raised across the company, working with all internal departments as required to identify root causes and drive out errors.
To carry out checks to verify subcontractors are appropriately qualified and competent for on-site work with the appropriate permits to work.
To keep up to date with relevant standards, regulations/legislation, issues, and news within their industry and market sector. To gather, compile and interpret business data, making recommendations to the management team in relation to actions required.
To confidently deal with any problems that could cause serious risk or concern to the business, informing the MD and senior personnel as required; collaborating proactively with other departments to negotiate and resolve any problems. Able to recommend or halt production in the event of serious concern regarding EH&S, cost or potential damage to business continuity and status within the industry.
To actively promote a culture of health and safety throughout the site, chairing the monthly and quarterly EH&S meetings, generating minutes and action points.
To manage emergency and first aid procedures for the site, ensuring that fire alarms and evacuation exercises take place and that there are adequate personnel trained in first aid, chemical spills and other safety or environmental matters.
To investigate and report on incidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses.
To report monthly to the MD on the EH&S action plan; monthly KPIs, audits and EH&S ADOMNI) highlighting corrective actions to prevent reoccurrences and/or improvements plans) and to provide any other reports and statistics as required.
To co-ordinate and participate in a key audit team covering all areas of HS&E to ensure processes demonstrate conformity and effectiveness.
To liaise with contractors, consultants and enforcement bodies as the company representative on EH&S matters.
To assist, support and co-ordinate all on matters of EH&S activity within business related projects e.g., site improvements , new equipment, product development etc.
To source or deliver training and induction on relevant topics to employees as required to meet recognised/acceptable standards, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
Responsible for ensuring all monitoring and measuring devices are inspected and calibrated as required to maintain EH&S standards e.g., extraction.
To refer any chemical or equipment related issues outside own knowledge to the Technical or Engineering teams respectively to aid any investigation and resolution.
Requirements:
Good general education with a minimum of 5 GCSE passes or equivalent
NEBOSH qualification
IEMA Foundation Environmental qualification (or willing to study towards)
Sound experience of working in a manufacturing environment
Good working knowledge of: Quality Assurance, Product Developments, H&S/Environmental controls and waste streams and workstation SOPs for all employees
Experience of knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001 and 22301
Excellent communication skills, able to communicate at all levels internally and externally
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Report writing and data analysis skills
Good presentation and training skills
IT skills to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Able to stand back and demonstrate an objective and investigative mindset
Accurate and organised with good attention to detail
Tenacious and resilient – able to challenge existing practices if required
