Posted on: 21 Jul 2017
Offering various perks to employees is one of the best ways of bringing in and retaining the top talent, no matter what field you’re in… and interestingly, having an office dog could be one of the best ways to attract and retain the best in your industry. After all, who wouldn’t want a little canine companion running around every day?
Recent research from Purina Petcare found that 42 per cent of people aged between 18 and 34 would like to have a dog-friendly office, so if you’re keen to bring in younger employees this could be the way to go.
The study also found that 97 per cent of employers in the UK that do run dog-friendly workplaces say they see all sorts of benefits, with 46 per cent noting that it can create a friendly environment and 41 per cent saying that it calms and destresses the office.
To set up your own dog-friendly office, why don’t you start by having an experience day with a dog brought in for one day and one day only to see how everyone goes? There are sure to be some people at work who don’t want to interact with pups, so make sure they know they don’t have to be involved. After the day, ask employees about how they thought it went and then devise a scheme based on your feedback that’ll work for all your members of staff.
Labradors could be a good choice for an office dog, since they’re friendly and very people-centric, while pugs are a very popular option as well. Alternatively, you could visit your local dogs’ home to see if there are any pups that need a loving home.
