Are You Happy With Your Career?

When you’ve invested the time in going to university, or have been working your way up on a particular career path for a number of years, the thought of changing tack can be scary.
But new research has found that one in five of us are unhappy in our current careers. A survey conducted by UK Power revealed that 25 per cent of adults in the UK don’t like their current job, while 19 per cent claimed to be dissatisfied with their career overall.
In fact, dissatisfaction in their current role is the main reason why people would like to change jobs, with 52 per cent citing this as a reason. That comes higher than salary, at 44 per cent, and disliking their boss, which is a reason that 13 per cent of respondents gave for wanting to move on.
What’s more, 26 per cent of those questioned said that they felt their mental health would improve if they changed jobs.
If you’re one of the people who doesn’t enjoy their current job and is considering a career change, speaking to a recruitment specialist could help you work out what transferable skills you have and what other opportunities are available to you.
Head of insight at UK Power Nick Heath commented: “Having the resources available to help make informed decisions about changing any aspect of your life can be the difference between being unhappy and having something to smile about.”
Earlier this month, National Work Life Week offered some advice on how to get a better work/life balance. Among the suggestions was to request flexible working, something you’re entitled to do after being employed by a company for 26 weeks, and making sure you always leave the office on time.
